Mary Louise Zeno Carter (1913 - 2006) was a dutiful wife and mother, an intelligent, civic-minded and hard-working woman, a meticulous homemaker, a generous caregiver and a dedicated social worker for the Illinois Department of Public Aid. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Born in Louisiana, Carter moved with her family to Chicago when she was a little girl. She attend Phillips High School where she met her husband, the late Carneil Carter, Sr. After raising two children of their own, the couple took on the challenge of raising their deceased daughter's four children, the youngest being me. My grandmother was an active member of St. Sabina Church, and served as Treasurer of her neighborhood block club and Den Mother for the Boy Scouts of America. She also welcomed into her home, any relative that needed a place to stay for a night, a weekend, or a while.

Meshach Taylor (1947-2014) was an Emmy-nominated actor, best known for his role as Anthony Bouvier on the sitcom Designing Women, and for his portrayal of Hollywood Montrose, in the Mannequin films. He played Sheldon Baylor on the sitcom Dave's World, and appeared as Alastair Wright, the social studies teacher and later school principal, on the sitcom, Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide. In 1996, Taylor hosted his own series The Urban Gardener with Meshach Taylor, and in 1998, he hosted Meshach Taylor's Hidden Caribbean. He was last seen in a recurring role on Criminal Minds. Taylor married actress Bianca Ferguson in 1983. Taylor was a devoted husband and father, a supporter of FAMU and a mentor to many people in and outside of the entertainment industry.

Meharry Medical College is one of the nation’s oldest and largest historically black academic health science centers dedicated to educating physicians, dentists, researchers, and health policy experts. Founded in 1876 as the Medical Department of Central Tennessee College, Meharry was the first medical school in the South for African Americans. Today, Meharry includes a medical school, dental school, and a graduate school; and is home to the Center for Health Policy at Meharry.
