T'Keyah Crystal Keymáh directed her first original play in the sixth grade. In high school, she began starring in, producing and directing variety shows open to the public. Keymáh earned a B.S. in Theater at Florida A & M University and studied directing under their co-op program with Florida State University. Her self-directed solo show, Some of My Best Friends, won an NAACP Theater Award for Best Play, and she directed each of her other original stage shows, T’Keyah Live!... Mostly: A True Variety Show, Don't Get Me Started, Sellout!?!, and her newest, Meeting in School Building 17: An African Folktale Show. Her other theater directing credits include S.I.S.T.E.R (Bronzeville Theatre), Route 66: Finding Nat King Cole (Amen Ra Theatre), The Nacerima Society (Florida A&M University), M: The Mandela Saga (Atlanta Black Theatre Festival) and Gee's Bend (Star Center Theatre). She also directed an episode of the television series, That’s So Raven – as well as all episodes of her new media project, The Cool Crystal Show .

T'Keyah Crystal Keymáh taught theatre and dance for Upward Bound before graduating from Florida A&M University, and after college, served as a substitute teacher for the Chicago Board of Education. For more than twenty years, she has presented her “Tools of the Trade” actor preparation lectures and workshops to working and aspiring performers across and outside of the US and was an Artist-in-Residence at FAMU where she created and taught an Acting for the Camera class. A perpetual student, she studied Michael Shurtleff and Sanford Meisner training and is a certified actor and teacher of the Michael Chekhov actor training method. She is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts, (Performance & Pedagogy) and a Doctor of Fine Arts (Theatre: Arts Administration and Acting / Directing) at Texas Tech University where she also teaches.
